New Window Display

Our latest window display features amongst its books coloured blue, Exeter's Royal Clarence Hotel by Darren Marsh priced £25.

In October 2016 one of Exeter’s most prestigious hotels, The Royal Clarence in Cathedral Close, suffered a tragic fire that lasted for several days and gutted most of the building.  Local people were heartbroken to see such an iconic landmark destroyed but are now looking forward to the rebuilding of the hotel and the reinstatement of the old façade.

Amazingly, in the three years leading up to the fire a man called Darren Marsh had been in the process of producing a full-scale study of the hotel.  Now at last his book is published and we have new copies on sale at The Topsham Bookshop.

The book examines the Royal Clarence’s development from the residential dwellings of a Georgian clergyman to a four-star hotel.  Using documents, artefacts, ephemera and photographs from both public and private collections, it has been diligently compiled to provide a good read as well as a work of reference.
